From Fukuoka, I travelled south by train and spent one night at Kumamoto City. Kumamoto is centrally located in Kyushu, making it an excellent base when exploring the island. The city is located on a higher elevation, thus the cool gloomy weather. It rained the whole day I was there, so I only got to explore the city’s castle, which is actually one of Japan’s well-preserved and most complete. Here are some snapshots around Kumamoto.

Of all foreign countries I’ve visited, I think Japan is now my most explored, having visited around 15 cities/towns as of today; Tokyo, Nagoya, Kyoto, Himeji, Hiroshima, Miyajima, Sapporo, Furano, Biei, Fukuoka, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Yufuin, Oita and Beppu. All thanks to the unlimited train pass from JR Rail.
